My Web Cam
Ok well, I had a web cam…
But then I got a new laptop and it’s no longer compatible because I now have Windows Vista. So until I buy a new one, it’s back to writing out my posts. I prefer video so much more though.
Anyway, Google slapped my 50% of my Adwords campaigns. Their timing is spot-on because my wife and I just went into contract on a house…which in NJ, is a crazy amount of money.
But I only do Affiliate Marketing part-time…my wife and I both have full-time jobs…so we don’t rely on my online income. But still, the 3 to 4 grand profit I make each month is a nice cushion.
I’m not nervous though because I know I’ll correct things and come back stronger than ever. But I’m more frustrated about how picky Google is…I’m getting tired of having to walk on egg shells with them and continuously adapt to their changes.
That being said, it’s just the nature of the beast, and their search engine makes me money. The key is learning from your mistakes and growing.
Google is Getting Smarter
What I mean is, you use to be able to direct link….then you had to have a landing page….then a multi-page landing page…but throwing an ‘about us’ and ‘privacy page’ and a half-ass blog on your landing page doesn’t seem to do the trick anymore. Not for me at least. Google is getting smarter.
I thought my landing pages were pretty good, but looking back, I guess there was a lot of room for improvement.
They want a landing page that will help their visitors. So that means links to real content…internal links to other pages on your site…maybe links to non-competing external sites…just something more beefy and real. But of course keep your main offer front and center.
If you have a small ‘articles’ link at the very bottom of your landing page which leads to somewhat relevant articles, that might not cut it anymore. Because the bottom line is, eventually a human at Google will look at it…and they can fish out crappy landing pages much better than the Adwords bot can.
This is based strictly on my experience as of lately, but I’m pretty confident I’m right. If you think otherwise, I definitely encourage you to comment below.
My Advice To You
Take a real hard look at your landing pages. Are they as good as they can be? If they aren’t, fix things NOW before Google slaps you. It’s much easier to make changes when you’re ‘high’ from seeing the sales roll in than doing it when sales are down because you’ve been slapped (like me).
Me personally, I’m also going to SEO my landing pages now so maybe over time, I’ll get sales from free traffic.
Cheers,
Ryan
