I’m Crazy For Crazy Egg And Here’s Why

Testing is the name of the game in affiliate marketing.

  • You test your keywords so you know which ones to keep and which ones to toss.
  • You test your pay per click ads to increase your click through rate.
  • And you test your landing page to make it more effective.

Well, the past 2 weeks I’ve been using a free tool to help me increase the effectiveness of my pre-sell landing pages.

It’s called Crazy Egg.

Crazy Egg lets you test multiple landing pages to see what people click on. So for an affiliate marketer, it’s perfect to test your landing page’s call-to-actions.

That’s what I’ve been doing and it’s helped me increase the percentage of those that come to my landing page and click on my affiliate link.

All things being equal, if you can get this percentage to increase, your sales should increase without any additional costs. That’s been the case for me so far.

OK, now onto the meat of this post.

If you already know about Crazy Egg, then this wasn’t that helpful — but I’m going to share with you the one change I’ve made to my landing pages that’s helped me increase my sales as a result of my tests.

I used Crazy Egg to find the best positioning of my call-to-action affiliate links.

Most of the landing pages I use consist of a main headline and — directly below — a smaller sub-headline.

I tested putting one of the call-to-action links in the sub-headline and both my CTR to the merchant’s site and my sales increased. And I set this affiliate link to open up into a new window so the person can still read my landing page if they choose.

I guess it seems obvious to do this, but for the past year I never thought to put an affiliate link that high up on the page because it didn’t give the visitor a chance to read my pre-sell copy. Instead, I usually placed one in the first paragraph.

That’s why you should test!

This is my recommendation to you:

The free version of Crazy Egg lets you test 4 pages. So test 4 versions of your landing page and vary how you position your call-to-actions.

Let the tests run for at least 100 visitors per page and see what version generates the most click thru’s to the merchant’s site.

Besides being extremely helpful, it’s also pretty cool to review the results.

Cheers,
Ryan

I run tests with it all the time, sometimes I just want to see where people click, and sometimes I’m more precise. So as a free tool it’s pretty insane.
