Update 1: Building a Niche Website with Wordpress
This is an update to my original post found here. The original post also contains all the details about what I’m trying to do — basically use Wordpress to create an optimized niche website to make $1,000 per month by the end of 2008.

Things are going pretty well so far.
- I’ve made $32 and that was a result of 1 affiliate sale (update: I made another sale right after I posted this so now I’m up to $64).
- Google now has 18 of my pages indexed.
- I’ve received 156 unique visitors and 518 pageviews.
- I’m already getting traffic to my site organically from Google.
Keep in mind the site is less than 1 month old. It’s a newborn; it hasn’t even left the hospital yet.
I have Adsense set up, but no action yet — then again my focus is on making affiliate sales. All I need is 1 per day to reach my goal of $1,000 per month.
Article Marketing
I’ve been releasing 1 new article every 3 or 5 days. Soon I’ll just have my freelancer give me 1 new article per week so I’m on a doable schedule. I’ve been using the paid version of iSnare.com to blast out my articles and this morning I set up a Google Alert for my website url so I can see when websites are using my content — in hindsight, I should have done this earler.
To manage my articles, check word count, keyword density, etc. I’m using the new RapidWriter feature of Wealthy Affiliate. God bless those guys!
Link Building
I’m getting incoming links using two methods. The first of course is article marketing. When I submit a new article AND when websites use my content, I get link backs to my website.
I also signed up with 3 Ways Links. For $47/month, I can inject SEO link juice into 50 websites. So far so good. I identified 3 keyword phrases that I want to rank for that get a lot of searches, but have low competition (for this research I used Micro Niche Finder). For 1 of the keyword phrases, I’m almost on the first page of Google.
Affiliate Promotions
I’m promoting 4 main products with my website and I’m using a banner rotator plugin to cycle thru the 4 banners in the header of the site. To take it a step further, I created presell review pages for the 4 products and I’m already getting ranked in Google under the product names. So I think over time, the review pages and banners will work together synergistically.
Moving Forward
I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing. Submitting articles to iSnare and letting 3 Ways Links do its magic. That’s really all there is to it because the SEO plugins I have installed take care of the rest. Of course I’ll probably tweak things from time to time — and I’ll probably try to optimize my Adsense placements — but for the most part, that’s it.
I’ll make another update in 2 weeks or so. If you want to follow along with me, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed or enter in your email address (top right).
