How to Use Presell Landing Pages

I previously mentioned presell landing pages — I will blog more about this topic in the future (and will probably eventually release my own eBook about my presell tactics) — but here’s a quick “how to” post with some quick tips.

The bottom line about affiliate marketing is that we depend on the visitor to perform a specific action such as making a purchase, filling out a form or taking some other action.

Having a well-written presell landing page that encourages your visitor to act immediately can be an extremely effective tool.

Although you can directly link to a merchant’s website, you are depending on their landing page to sell your visitor. Your visitors may have a different perspective and using a presell landing page can give you a greater conversion rate because you’re speaking directly to your target market.

So in a nutshell, by offering valuable content such as reviews or informational articles, you can encourage your visitors to take the action you want.

Consider the benefits of an optimized presell landing page:

  • You can use it in PPC or optimize it for the search engines;
  • Using your own voice builds trust in the products you’re promoting; and
  • Presell landing pages also give you the chance to gain new RSS or newsletter subscribers.

An effective presell landing page should include the following elements:

  • Useful content such as information or reviews about your affiliate products or services;
  • Multiple affiliate links to your products or services without additional hyperlinks to distracting content;
  • Use a short pitch page with subheadings and white space so it’s easy to read;
  • Avoid a salesy tone that could turn buyers off; and
  • Have a strong call to action that encourages your visitors to take action.

And if your goal is to get ranked naturally in the search engines — your presell landing page should include targeted keyword phrases and some inbound one way links to improve your rankings.

To avoid getting penalized by Google Adwords (meaning a low quality score), your landing page should be presented as a website with basic elements such as about us, contact us, a sitemap and a privacy policy.

You can even link your presell landing page to your blog, other related deals and include a section for people to write their own reviews so you build more content for free.

To summarize — a concise, relevant presell landing page can boost your affiliate marketing profits by driving traffic to your promotions in a buying mood.

The other advantages of having a pre-sell landing page is that you can split test this page to maximize click-thrus and sales.

For example, one of my clients conducted a split test of his pre-sell page. Just by changing the headline in the affiliate link, his click-thrus went from 20% to 60%.

With split testing, you can test different angles of your pre-sell page, to see which is the most effective.

Excellent point Paul! The ability to split test landing pages is a very important benefit that I definitely should have mentioned.
