Boosting Your Google Adwords ROI
I’m constantly testing different tweaks for Google Adwords to lower my costs and optimize my campaigns. It’s a never ending battle!
This past week I tested something and the results were very helpful — so I figured I’d share it with you in case you want to test it in your own campaigns.
See below — in Google Adwords, under Campaign Settings, you have the option to show your ads on just Google.com or on Google.com AND their Search Network (sites like Earthlink and AOL).

Up until now, I’ve always run my ads on both networks because I’m very profitable and never thought about testing just using Google.com.
But in my quest to optimize my campaigns, I figured I’d run a 4-day search network test to see what my ROI (return on investment) is. ROI is a measurement of how much you make versus how much your spend.
Here are the results:
Day 1 — Just Google.com.
ROI = 68% (so I made 68% more than I spent)
Day 2 — Just Google.com.
ROI = 55%
Day 3 — Google.com and Search Network.
ROI = 137%
Day 4 — Google.com and Search Network.
ROI = 115%
For all 4 days, nothing else was changed in my campaigns except for the network selection.
So for my campaigns, it’s obvious that I should run my ads on both Google Adwords and their Search Network. I spend more, but my ROI is double.
But these results will vary big time depending on what products and services you promote — so test it yourself first before taking my advice.
And make sure you let your ads run long enough to be sure about the results.
Cheers,
Ryan

Interesting.. I wonder what would happen if you setup two separate identical campaigns, running one on google.com and the other on the search network.

Hey Jonathan, I was thinking the same thing, but unfortunately running ads on just Google’s Search Network is not an option.
It’s either Google.com or Google.com and Search Network.
