A Free and Super-Useful Keyword Research Tool
Happy 2008!
I’m going to start the year off with a tool that will probably eventually be converted to paid — but at the time of this writing, it is indeed free.
The tool is called SEO Digger, and if you haven’t heard of it before, this is going to be a very useful post for you.
SEO Digger is a keyword research tool that lets you uncover any website’s first page keyword rankings on Google. So you put in a URL and in seconds it lists all the keywords that website ranks for on the first page of Google.
It’s fast, amazingly powerful — and has a ton of applications.
Here are a few:
- You can use it to uncover the SEO efforts of your competition.
- You can use it to generate keyword ideas for your own SEO efforts.
- You can use it to build a list of longtail keywords that you may have never thought of on your own.
In regards to affiliate marketing, here’s an idea:
Lets say you’re promoting a fitness product using pay per click. What you would do is plug in the merchant’s website into SEO Digger — the tool will spit out a list of targeted keywords that you can then use in your PPC efforts. And many will be super longtail keywords that will cost you less per click.
Obviously, not every keyword will be good so you’ll have to take the nonrelevant ones out — and you’ll want to break up the list into small groups of related keywords — but overall it’s an easy way to build a list of keywords for your affiliate efforts.
Like I said above — SEO Digger is free right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed it to paid in the near future.
Talk to you soon,
Ryan

Ryan - Excellent post. Timing was perfect for me as I’m doing a heafty SEO project with our corporate website. I’m able to take the SEO tool you mentioned (SEO Digger) and review our keywords that are getting noticed at Google. What’s very interesting is when I peek at our competitions keyword success through this tool. It gives me great ideas dude, well done!
That’s a great point Food Junkie. You can use SEO Digger to see what your competition is ranking for…and you might come across some good keywords that you hadn’t thought to SEO your site for.
