Beating the Holiday Sales Blues
First off, Happy Holidays! Tomorrow is Christmas — and today I’m spending the day with my wife’s family and tomorrow we’ll be with my family. I hope you have a great holiday as well.
As I fully expected, my Clickbank sales are way down the past 2 weeks. This time of the year, everyone spends their money on gifts for friends and family — and so naturally my sales go down.
I know, however, once the New Year is here, my sales will go right back up to normal — and for my weight loss affiliate promotions, I’ll probably see a big boost.
I was thinking about it though — I shouldn’t just accept the fact that my sales will be down the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas. I think next year what I’m going to do is build up a holiday promotion that I will focus on heavily during the months of November and December.
Hopefully by this time next year I’ll be more experienced and a bit smarter and creative with my promotions.
I’m a member of Amazon.com and Commission Junction — and they have merchants that sell gift-related merchandise like electronics, things for your home, books, etc.
So maybe the thing to do is start up some gift-related affiliate promotions starting the first week in November. I could try selling things like digital cameras, DVD players, books, DVD’s, video game systems and games, etc.
And to make my job easier, I could study Amazon.com’s best-seller page:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/
They break out - by category - their bestsellers — it’s awesome information and will show me exactly which types of items are selling like crazy.
I’ll create presell landing pages and drive targeted traffic to these pages using pay per click engines like Google Adwords and Yahoo Search.
Obviously competition will be fierce for tactics like this, but if I can find a product or two that isn’t wildly popular — and be as creative as possible with my presell landing page — I shouldn’t experience the depressed sales in December like I am right now.
I’m starting to see that half the battle of being a successful affiliate marketer is thinking outside the box and trying new things — and I’m definitely guilty of being a little lazy sometimes.
But next year this won’t be the case.
I’ve got one year to think of a good gift-related niche to promote in November and December of 2008 — plenty of time!
Again, have a great holiday guys!
Speak to you soon,
Ryan
